Yesterday, I was fortunate to be in attendance at the kick-off of La Jolla Concerts By the Sea’s 28th season. Also, this year, my 16 year old daughter, Amethyst was helping out La Jolla Kiwanis, one of the sponsors for the events. She belongs to Key Club at La Jolla High School and she and some of her fellow Key-clubbers were on hand to help out as volunteers with set-up, concession sales, etc. My

Using Adobe Illustrator, this creation is part of an identity campaign intended to appeal to the Baby Boomer Generation. Some of the most iconic, best-loved, easily identified and oft missed art of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s is the drive-in theatre, which was one of the great showcases of beautiful neon art. This design pays loving homage to that wonderful artform. Boomer DJ’s is an entertainment company providing DJ & Master-of-Ceremonies services for “baby boomer” oriented events.

The site also spotlights a Home Page Adobe Flash presentation featuring iconic memories from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. Boomer DJ’s is a La Jolla, California based entertainment company catering to the special event needs of La Jolla, San Diego & Southern California’s “baby boomers.” A division of Allegro Entertainment, Boomer DJ’s was founded by Allegro operator and SoCal favorite “Ron J” Jones, the “Voice of La Jolla.

Click on the image to see it enlarged and you’ll better see the “painterly” effect. (Thanks to the La Jolla Light newspaper for providing the original photograph on which this image is based.)

He took museum delivery (at the Corvette Museum adjacent to the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky) of a brand-new, top of the line Corvette Z06. He then drove it in ONE CONTINOUS loop to “ALL 50” United States. (Yes, Hawaii and Alaska too.) You can read all about it on the site I did for Ray in 2003. Check out “Ray’s Journal” for day-by-day details and images from this amazing adventure: www.All50Corvette.com Here’s info. from Ray’s “About” page: Ray Ehly, Jr. introduces his

He first designed a healing music program for emotionally disturbed children at San Diego Center for Children in 1988 and since then has developed percussion programs for companies, hospitals, hospices, after-school programs, and service organizations. “The heart,” he says, “is the original drum that gives each of us natural musical ability. If your heart beats, you have rhythm!”

My daughter and I met Sundiata and his family, when they facilitated a drumming circle at a family camp we attended through a local hospice organization. (Hospice of The North Coast) A relationship developed with these nice people and helping him present his drumming presentations to corporate and other entities who wanted to take advantage of the healing and

Contemporary, yet retro and time-less design focus on antique typewriter keys and graphic featuring the word “idea” along with a background which shows words winding in an around each other. Norma-Jean (as am I) is a “purple fan,” hence the tinting. I’m quite fond and proud of this design.
More please! →Web design for Norma-Jean Strickland, voice-over artist. “NJ” brought me a caricature drawn by artist Joe Schmidt, and wished it to feature prominently in her website design. Home page navigation features comic-book style “word bubbles” and a dynamic “burst” on the vintage microphone calls up a pop-window with voice samples.

One such friend is Mr. “Ron J” Jones, popular and very active La Jolla community members. Ron is a long-time dear friend and I enjoyed the opportunity to help him present his company, Allegro Entertainment and himself online. Though Ron’s “CD-trola” (my term) design was already created before I entered the project, it became my task to create a web design around that focal point.

More please! →I had the pleasure and honor to put together both a logo and magazine ad for jazz guitar great Joe Diorio. I’d done previous work for his webmaster (see “Cash Faucet” post earlier) on behalf of technology giant Hewlett-Packard. This was particularly challenging because the photos I was given to work from were snapshots taken under less than optimal conditions. I’ve found that, when that happens (especially when the budget’s tight), I turn the lemons into lemonade by using the “obstacle” as the guide for the art. The blurriness of the originals begat the direction of the digital final product.
More please! →A friend of mine who runs technology giant Hewlett-Packard‘s business IT solutions division approached me wanting to create an ad campaign which featured his idea of a “cash faucet.” He wanted me to help him convey as a metaphor the idea that his division could create cash flow for his customers. This image was the result. The image was revealed at a Hewlett-Packard National Managers Symposium back east and received “oohs and ahs” when projected HUGE on a screen in the presentation hall. As a result, they purchased additional rights to the image for use in additional promotional pieces and
