I had the pleasure and honor to put together both a logo and magazine ad for jazz guitar great Joe Diorio. I’d done previous work for his webmaster (see “Cash Faucet” post earlier) on behalf of technology giant Hewlett-Packard.
This was particularly challenging because the photos I was given to work from were snapshots taken under less than optimal conditions. I’ve found that, when that happens (especially when the budget’s tight), I turn the lemons into lemonade by using the “obstacle” as the guide for the art. The blurriness of the originals begat the direction of the digital final product. (see below for source photo and you’ll see what I mean)
