Online visitors are pretty savvy and will judge your whole business by what they see in the first 3 seconds, and right now, you have to ask yourself the question: “are my visitors responding well to my logo and branding?” Logo design is tricky ground because people love their logos and I never like to offend, That said, respectfully, logo may not be the most important thing on your website, but it needs to look top notch so logo design should be an important consideration in creating and/or the continuing success of your business. It’s a mistake because rebranding is always a mistake. Even if your brand is called Wanker or the Certified Union of National Transcribers, you keep your original name. The only reason you ever rebrand is because you have to for legal or ownership reasons, cf. Accenture.
It’s a mistake because Twitter is throwing away brand equity. While the debate rages over distinctiveness and differentiation, no one doubts that a significant – and possibly dominant – aspect of brand equity is derived from a brand’s ability to be recognised by its target market and to come to mind in buying/user situations. When you rebrand you lose all of this…(Read on…)

And the story usually isn’t pretty. Here’s how it goes: “The XYZ Organization revealed their new logo last week. Customers complained bitterly that the new image didn’t represent their hopes and dreams. And when XYZ Organization admitted the new logo

One of their members, for whom I’d built several sites already, asked me to review their previous site which had been up for a number of years with an eye towards making it more dynamic and better indicative of the spirit and status of the Association. Their old site really was not conveying the organization in an effective and positive way. As a benefit of membership, each attorney has an individual page upon which to

With a history as broadcaster, deejay and emcee since his youth in the 60’s, Ron undertakes a great new project for our community, The Voice of La Jolla, a podcasting website catering to the uniquely wonderful community of La Jolla, California. (My hometown!) Ron and I have collaborated on numerous website projects in the past together for his businesses and community organizations like La Jolla Concerts By the Sea, Rotary Club of La Jolla and La Jolla Meals On Wheels. This project presented exciting challenges
More please! →This project features a WordPress website, logo (re)design and business cards for an exceptionally exciting new travel service based in La Jolla, California. I owe a debt to the Bird Rock Community Council in my hometown of La Jolla. Some months back, their IT specialist referred me to Doug Wheeler’s wife Jane for a project (which eventually went a different direction). Thankfully, enough of an impression was left that when it came time for husband Doug to launch his latest undertaking, Jane suggested a conversation with me and Brass Ring Multimedia was one of his first calls. We hit it

More please! →Brass Ring’s mission is to help small businesses to succeed. Another example is Clear Water Pools, a full-service swimming pool service and repair company servicing all areas of North San Diego county. ClearWater came to me through an internet marketing consultant who asked me to help CWP transition from their existing website to a much more effective and attractive website with the power of WordPress…on a budget! As part of the project, I also had the opportunity to “tweak” their logo a bit (no charge…often necessary for optimum visuals, though I do offer logo design & company branding services.)

The other is as a DJ/MC (disc-jockey & master-of-ceremonies) since 1987. For most of that time, I’ve had a great friend and mentor in “Ron J” Jones of Allegro Entertainment. A popular entertainer and personality in my home-town of La Jolla, California. Ron is known by many as “The Voice of La Jolla.” He is Rotary Club of La Jolla President, has served as executive director of the La Jolla Town Council, executive director of

He’s “my gunsmith.” I was pleased with the opportunity to build one of my $397 WordPress specials for him including an upgrade to the existing Gussler’s logo. Gussler’s was established in 1988 and expanded in 2005 to include gun shows and internet transfers. Using Adobe Illustrator, this creation is part of an identity campaign intended to appeal to the Baby Boomer Generation. Some of the most iconic, best-loved, easily identified and oft missed art of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s is the drive-in theatre, which was one of the great showcases of beautiful neon art. This design pays loving homage to that wonderful artform. Boomer DJ’s is an entertainment company providing DJ & Master-of-Ceremonies services for “baby boomer” oriented events.

More please! →I had the pleasure and honor to put together both a logo and magazine ad for jazz guitar great Joe Diorio. I’d done previous work for his webmaster (see “Cash Faucet” post earlier) on behalf of technology giant Hewlett-Packard. This was particularly challenging because the photos I was given to work from were snapshots taken under less than optimal conditions. I’ve found that, when that happens (especially when the budget’s tight), I turn the lemons into lemonade by using the “obstacle” as the guide for the art. The blurriness of the originals begat the direction of the digital final product.
More please! →This is a redesign project. ATS Computers, a San Diego-based custom PC manufacturer, suffered from “old logo syndrome.” Though I don’t believe that a logo has to be redesigned every 5 minutes like many do (why can’t things last sometimes?), this logo was achin’ to be updated. There are two additional “new” versions here: one for the steel plaques affixed to the front of every ATS Computer built and one for the computer “system” page in the Windows OS installed on every unit.
