Book Recommendation: The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. Covey

The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. Covey (cover)One of the most amazing books I’ve had the privilege to read was The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. Covey. Once again, I have my good friend and voracious reader Johnny Y. to thank for pointing me (once again) at one of the truly remarkable paradigm-changing reads I’ve had the good fortune to encounter.

I recommend this book without reservation and offer it as a great resource to my small business clients who wish to grow their business and themselves with integrity and intelligence, two of the cornerstones of business success as I see and practice it.

My initial draw to the book was as that of a salesman wishing to learn how to convey trust in myself, my products and services to my potential clients. What surprised me, as have other life-changing books of its type was the wisdom that awaited me far beyond my original intent.

In a world where trust is tenuous, where so many have lost trust in so many of the very things that we were taught to believe in, this book is a particularly useful find as it takes on the topic of trust in a fascinating and remarkably pragmatic “rubber hits the road” manner. Not only does it intelligently and clearly clarify trust and its effect on business, society, our relationships even our selves, but it helps us to understand and practice the idea of “smart trust,” which serves as an antidote to many of the negative outcomes so many encounter. Speed of Trust also offers guidance on how to regain trust lost, a particularly valuable skill.
