A Better World, A Better You

globe-handsSuccess cannot only be measured by money, objects or time. One must include one’s contribution to others…locally, globally and in between. Make sure your business plan includes being other-centered. The most successful people I admire all do.

Following are some great resources to grow as a person and give back. You will reap rewards far beyond any investment of time, money or effort…that’s a universal truth.

All Pro Dad

all-pro-dad_logoA big part of why I’m an entrepreneur, like many of you, is because I have a family life which is very important to me and entrepreneurship allows me flexibility to honor that. I’m a Dad raising a daughter on my own since she was 5. As this is a key priority in my life, I have sought many resources to make sure I do that as best I can.

All Pro Dad is on a mission to help you love and lead your family well. Be a hero to your kids. Our message will inspire you to embrace who you are, give you tenderness of heart, and boldness of character as a dad and husband.”

Click image to improve public school education. As a single dad raising a young child, I’ve been very involved in her schooling. Room parent, PTA member, volunteer, even Girl Scout co-troop-leader. It’s appalling how bent out of shape our society’s priorities are, particularly in the are of ensuring quality education for our kids…our planet’s hope for the future. The funding and resources our teachers receive is ridiculously lacking in many cases. Considering the wasteful spending that goes on in other areas…this ticks me off to no end.

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on our site, and you can give any amount to the project that most inspires you.

franklin-covey_logoStephen R. Covey has been an incredibly influential person in my life path. His book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and others he’s written have helped me redefine what riches mean by identifying and adjusting my priorities in life. It’s given me tools to aid me in ensuring that my life “compass” is in harmony with my priorities and values.

“In 1989, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey was published, and training and consulting based on its concepts were developed. The book has become one of the top-selling business books of all time.”

The Napoleon Hill Foundation

Napoleon Hill’s book, Think & Grow Rich
, which I misunderstood for so long as some “get rich quick” scheme was presented to me by a business mentor of mine who gave me the “Action Pack” edition (buy THAT one!) introduced it as “an incredibly spiritual book,” It led to incredible insight and has been significant in helping me adjust my life compass…earth-shaking book.

“Mission & Purpose: The Napoleon Hill Foundation is a nonprofit educational institution dedicated to making the world a better place in which to live.”

The Art of Manliness

art-of-manliness_logoManliness is in a state of flux and redefinition. Changing in meaning based on whom you ask, it seems it’s become a disappearing art. Brett McKay’s Art of Manliness website (I just received his book too) has become a favorite site of mine as he and his team present great, useful information and resources on men’s interests…how to be a “man’s man,” not just some media-defined caricature of testosterone poisoning, but how to be a manly gentleman.

“Brett McKay founded the Art of Manliness in 2008 and has grown it into the largest independent men’s interest magazine on the web.”

The Center for Public Integrity

center-250px-logo_0“…founded in 1989 by Charles Lewis. We are one of the country’s oldest and largest nonpartisan, nonprofit investigative news organizations. Our mission: To serve democracy by revealing abuses of power, corruption and betrayal of public trust by powerful public and private institutions, using the tools of investigative journalism.”
