Ray Ehly Jr. (now a good friend) reached out to me via an IT buddy with a dream I couldn’t resist: help him celebrate the Corvette’s (and his own!) 50th Birthday—by custom-ordering a top-of-the-line Z06, taking museum delivery in Bowling Green, KY (home to both the plant and the museum), and then hitting every state in the union…one big loop. It’s a mistake because rebranding is always a mistake. Even if your brand is called Wanker or the Certified Union of National Transcribers, you keep your original name. The only reason you ever rebrand is because you have to for legal or ownership reasons, cf. Accenture.

Boomer DJ’s “Drive-in Theatre Marquee” Logo Design

Created as part of website project for La Jolla’s “Ron J” Jones‘ company Boomer DJ’s. Using Adobe Illustrator, this creation is part of an identity campaign intended to appeal to the Baby Boomer Generation. Some of the most iconic, best-loved, easily identified and oft missed art of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s is the drive-in theatre, which was one of the great showcases of beautiful neon art. This design pays loving homage to that wonderful artform. Boomer DJ’s is an entertainment company providing DJ & Master-of-Ceremonies services for “baby boomer” oriented events.

Treasure Vacations is a travel company based in San Diego, California which dedicates itself to Honeymoon vacations. They provide all-inclusive trips to beautiful and exotic locales in virtually every corner of the globe.

Joe Diorio, Jazz Guitar Legend, Magazine Ad Layout (incl. logo design)

I had the pleasure and honor to put together both a logo and magazine ad for jazz guitar great Joe Diorio. I’d done previous work for his webmaster (see “Cash Faucet” post earlier) on behalf of technology giant Hewlett-Packard. This was particularly challenging because the photos I was given to work from were snapshots taken under less than optimal conditions. I’ve found that, when that happens (especially when the budget’s tight), I turn the lemons into lemonade by using the “obstacle” as the guide for the art. The blurriness of the originals begat the direction of the digital final product.

ATS Computers Logo Redesign

This is a redesign project. ATS Computers, a San Diego-based custom PC manufacturer, suffered from “old logo syndrome.” Though I don’t believe that a logo has to be redesigned every 5 minutes like many do (why can’t things last sometimes?), this logo was achin’ to be updated. There are two additional “new” versions here: one for the steel plaques affixed to the front of every ATS Computer built and one for the computer “system” page in the Windows OS installed on every unit.
